Word count/Article Type
Suggested submission length is from 300 to 2500 words. We invite submissions ranging from photo essays, short vignettes to extensively-developed articles.
We are seeking articles that are reader-friendly, popular-magazine style, rather than in an academic style. We encourage our writers to share their stories and experiences and not limit to writing about challenges or successes – use of descriptive and impersonal language is highly encouraged.
We encourage submissions from a diverse group and experts from Africa. Being that Let Music Preach is a youth-led platform we highly encourage young amateur writers to submit their content as well.
As you submit your article we encourage you to submit a HD headshot photo with a resume and a short bio of yourself.
Pitch and submission
Before you start writing, please see our full Writers’ Guidelines below–and let us know your article idea so that we can give feedback on how it may fit into Let Music Preach. If you don’t want to write an article but want to submit photos, please see our Photo Guidelines below.
List no more than 12 references at the end of your manuscript. No embedded reference numbers should be included in the text. If you need to attribute the source of key points or quotes, state names in the text and give the full reference at the end.
I. What “Submitting an Article” Means.
We will promise to read your article, but we may respectfully decline it and not publish it, or save it and publish it in a future issue. We also reserve the right to edit, shorten, or revise your article. Most of the time we contact authors about this ahead of time and get their comments, corrections, etc.
II. Getting Permission Ahead of Time.
Please send the article only when you have permission from anyone you need it from, such as fellow community members. We endeavor to present a diversity of views on Let Music Preach in a respectful and encouraging manner.
III. Publication Rights.
Once your article appears in Let Music Preach, we own first publishing rights. This means your article appears in Let Music Preach and will appear on our platforms first. You retain all other rights to it. If you’d like to use it elsewhere, you can, and we would appreciate your using an attribution line saying, for example: “This article first appeared in Let Music Preach: Album Review, (date); for further information on letmusicpreach.com”
If we publish your article, we want to accompany it with compelling images that illustrate your subject. You know your subject best, so we are appealing to you for images. If others in your community or group like taking pictures, they might already have great images to go with your article. If you would like to submit an article but cannot supply photos, that’s fine; however, please give us plenty of notice so that if we use your article we can get an illustrator.
By sending in your article, you agree to completely, adequately and exclusively indemnify Let Music Preach Publications from any third-party claims on interest, right, breach of same or otherwise arising out of or in connection with any information contained in the article you submit. You also agree to be bound by the rules herein expressed and all other rules made or to be subsequently made by Let Music Preach Publication relating to your use of relationship with Let Music Preach Publications.
Thanks for your contributions,
LET MUSIC PREACH TEAM.
